Cold and Cough have become common because some viruses do not establish long-lasting immunity after infection and some viruses have multiple serotypes. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), parainfluenza viruses (PIVs), and human coronaviruses (HCoVs) are examples of cold viruses that do not create long-term protection. Rhinoviruses, adenoviruses, influenza viruses, and enteroviruses are examples of cold viruses that have multiple serotypes but produce long-lasting serotype-specific immunity following infection.
